The #WeDesignSA initiative is the latest collaboration between Semper Fortis, bespoke furniture handcrafted in SA, Cara Saven of Cara Saven Wall Design, and Tshepo Mohlala of Tshepo Jeans. The installation is a fantastical portrayal of South Africa, showing that even in the toughest times SA's creative community can come together to design a South Africa full of optimism, hope, and resilience. The collection features a new take on the Semper Fortis Prana chair, and a jumpsuit by Tshepo Jeans.
INTRODUCING THE PRANA
The Halcyon design depicts the beautiful floral-scape of South Africa, with the iconic mystical Halcyon Kingfisher; which symbolises the power to calm the waves and birth a new future. This bespoke print has been recreated into a fabric used to cover the Semper Fortis Prana chair, a unique interactive love seat that invites you to sit front and back, a modular shape that encourages the paradox of being together and apart.
Dylan Joseph, the founder of Semper Fortis, met Cara Saven on the top of Table Mountain, where together they unveiled the #WeLoveSA banner, a banner of love in the aftermath of the riots. After the incredible response, they decided that like-minded creative entrepreneurs could uplift other entrepreneurs and support local entrepreneurship through design. All proceeds from the sales of the items will go to Over the Rainbow, an organisation offering guidance and support to South African entrepreneurs.
